This vise is for rotary axis work. The vise body is made from 6061-T6 aluminum with a .003″ thick Type III anodized finish. All holes used are machined after anodizing and the 10-24 mounting holes are wire inserted .285″ deep. The center jaw is located with (4) 1/4″ x .187″ tall dowel pins and held down with (2) 10-24 SHCS. The moving jaws have the traditional dovetail wedge interface with a spring plunger from the back holding them in place. The jaw carriers extend 3/8″ under the fixed jaw and are .005″ below the vise bed to keep chips out. The way that double station vises work pulling the moving jaws together against the fixed jaw transfers very little load to the vise body. The lead screw is a 6″ long 3/8-16 SHCS with a maximum recommended torque of 25 lb-ft. These vises can be bolted to the face of a rotary table or held to a drive plate on the rotary table with a tailstock. If a pneumatic tailstock is used the vises can be swapped with around 20 seconds of spindle down time. Using 2 vises you can machine 6 sides of a cube in 2 operations with around 40 seconds of spindle downtime if you swap parts in the vises while the machine is running. Items needed to do this, besides the vises, are drive plates for the vises, a drive platter for the rotary table, and either a 1/2″ bolt and washer or tailstock and vise ends, all either you make or sold separately. All materials are made in the U.S.A. and good quality.
Sitting on an end on a surface plate one axis is around .001″ out of square and the other is around .0006″, over 9″.
