We are now making a stone clamp for the KME that has 6 times more clamping force with the same knob tension than the original. With these new clamps, our 1″x4″ stones are held in the KME stone holder very well. Both ends of the KME stone holder have undercuts that contact the 30-degree dovetails in the ends of our stones so they don’t lift out. The clamp comes with one 1/4-20 x 1-1/4″ screw so it fully supports the knob.
The first photo is the original, notice where the knob contacts it, and how close that contact point is to where the clamp leverages against the wood body.
With our clamp, notice where the knob contacts the clamp on the raised section. Putting the contact point closer to the stone
makes a big difference in how well the clamp holds the stone.
Fully CNC machined from 6061-T6 aluminum bar with all surfaces machined and all edges broken.
This is to support my declaration that our new clamp has 6 times more holding pressure than the original. The distance between the knob and clamp contact point to the clamp and handle contact point is .1″ for the original and .62″ for the one we make, hence ours has 6 times better leverage against the stone.
