This line of stones is the same as our standard stones, except we are putting as much diamond in the resin as is practically possible, ranging from around a 1.8 to 2.5 times higher diamond-to-resin ratio. The coarsest grit has the biggest difference in concentration, with the finest the least. At the moment, I would say the improvement in performance is a bit higher than the increased cost, with a small increase in wear rate. The Max stones don’t make any difference in how sharp each grit can get your edge or how well they polish, but they do cut faster and will go longer between dressings than our current stones. I still think our standard resin-to-diamond mix is a better value, which has always been higher than 50/50 diamond to resin by weight, but these new stones take cutting speed and feedback up a notch or two. In time, the Max line may include our wider stones too.
These stones measure .287″ thick x .975″ wide x 4″ long. The backs are .225″ thick with a .062″ thick diamond/resin matrix. Save 10% when buying a full set.
All of the resin bond stones that we make use the same high-quality, tightly sized diamonds and resin, and are mixed in the same ratios. The only difference is their sizes.
These stones work very well on the KME knife sharpener if you use our stone clamp. This clamp works much better than the original for all stones, not just ours.
Be aware that you will need loose abrasives and a flat plate to dress them with, both for maintenance and initially, as they generally ship undressed.
While I do everything possible to ensure these stones are free of voids, I can not guarantee they will be for their entire life. While they are unsightly, I have never seen them affect how the stones cut or polish.
These stones may be used on guided sharpeners with the correct stone holders. The photo on the left shows the stone with a standard stone holder for Edge Pro style stones that work, and the one on the left shows what doesn’t work. The Edge Pro uses 45-degree dovetails, and mine use 30-degree dovetails. This difference in angles doesn’t cause a problem, but the stop above the dovetail in the right photo does. Whether these stones work on your guided sharpener depends on the type of stone holders you have and if you can move them together for the 4″ stones.
